I'm supposed to play the Fairy Queen Aine at a renn faire in June...
No. Clue. What. I'm. Doing.
Google and Ask give me marginal help...but I can't get much to make a coustume idea. Any ideas guys? I'm a fairly husky woman...Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Fairy Coustume Help!
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 2:35 PMslap some wings and glitter on to any costume and you pretty much have instant fairy. :) a few gauzy layers also help. make some kind of crown or tiara and you have the queen aspect.
It really depends on how you want to interpret it. you can try renting some movies for some inspiration. Legend and The Lord of the Rings are top of mind. the line between fairy and elf kind blurs in terms of styling. Basically fairies are elves with wings when you break it down to the basics. ;)

Re: Fairy Coustume Help!
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 4:37 PMGo to a renaissance faire and look at what people are wearing there (or look up pictures)- then add cool wings (check out the unusual wings section at www.artofwings.com/fairy_wings.htm) and a circlet (not a crown! PLEASE!)
Check out what was worn at the time, and then make it look like it came from the woodlands- and a Queen of anything WOULD be husky- she was rich!!
Don't make it cheesy. I don't know about your faire in particular, but mine tries to keep some sort of eye towards history, even in it's fantasies, and a tutu and nylon wings wouldn't be appreciated by anyone. -

Re: Fairy Coustume Help!
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 5:05 PMAllison,
isn't a circlet a type of crown? I'm thinking of the end of the Narnia movie when the children were crowned. I think it was just a minimalist ring or half ring. maybe I'm mixing my terms, not being real into the ren faire thing.
thanks for the wings link. While I've seen some beautiful nylon wings in unusual shapes and well painted, I liked the wings made of branches. -

Re: Fairy Coustume Help!
Tue, March 18, 2008 - 7:56 PMA circlet is more of a simple band worn around the head, without arches, points, or a head covering. A crown sits in the same spot, but it grows up from that direction forming some semblance of the typical spikey fashion (like the Burger King crown) or forming more of a cap.

Re: Fairy Coustume Help!
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 4:41 PMTry going to Flickr and entering "renaissance fairy" as your search term. You'll get a ton of visual references. I agree that you should look at other people who attend the faire and copy a similar silhouette for your costume as people of that time period would expect the fae to be dressed similarly.
If you are interested in wings, you can look at my site (www.fairy-wings.com), or look at my newer designs which are posted in my gallery on my profile.
Best of luck!! -
