Hi all!

I need a simple kimono pattern...I need to make one in the next 2 weeks...and my sewing machine despises me...I'd read some where it was just a bunch of rectangles, but I'm pattern illetrate, and Simplicitys patterns don't go up to my size. (I'm a size 26-28) in patterns.

Any ideas would be whole heartedly appreciated.

I'm planning to do a stage performance and I need an outfit similar to a Grinder Girl outfit. I've looked everywhere online and can't seem to find anybody who makes them. The Renn Fair/SCA type outfits are a little too organic, I'm looking for something more like the robot on Metropolis, but a lot more scantily of course! Anybody have leads on this?

Dances of Vice Festival - Gothic Victorian costumed ball New York

Salut! I'm Shien Lee, an event promoter in New York City - and I would like to invite all modern dandies, decadents, aesthetes, artists, thinkers, and dreamers to join us on February 8th and 9th for the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival in New York City! While our regular monthly events are grounded in the 1920-30s, the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival will have a distinctly neo-Victorian flair.

Rasputina will be headlining the festival in the exciting context of a neo-Victorian costumed ball, which will largely appeal to the gothic Victorian, neo-Victorian, steampunk, lolita, vintage lifestyle, glamor, and alternative subculture demographics. Come show off your lovely avant garde attire and try your luck at our costume contest, featuring a number of lovely historical costuming hats and accessories as the prizes.

The festival will feature a number of vendors, an art gallery, a vintage Polaroid photo booth, puppet operettas, a costume contest, and much more.

Event flyers can be found on my profile, and festival details can be located at www.dancesofvice.com

Limited quantity VIP tickets are on sale now at the website! Hope to meet some of you there!

Need designer for sexy sheep costume

Hey all,

I'm producing a film and need someone who can design/sew/gluegun a sexy sheep costume. This is a labor-of-love, out of my pocket super low budget production so I can really only afford to pay for supplies. That said, this film will get a lot of exposure as I'm an aggressive marketer, and I do have lots of connections so hopefully I could return the favor by getting you gigs. Any interest out there?

Here's the link to my film:
sheeplovestory.webs.com

Production is in San Francisco. Thanks!

Since Halloween is coming up I've started planning my costume. I'm planning a mermaid costume (think creepy, like the grindylows and merpeople from Harry Potter). The tail is a Simplicity pattern done in black PVC. I want to have a bare upper body and was thinking of some good alternatives to liquid latex. If I use a high-quality makeup like Ben Nye with a sealer, will that get me through trick-or-treating and the party???? How do I keep it looking fresh for the whole night??

Become a part of "bAbeL - art project"

Dear brothers and sisters,

i study art therapy in Germany and work on the arty part of my diploma at the moment - and i invite you to support my work “ babel“!
Babel is about the try to cancel the moment of disintegration, it is about identity, community,structure and the basic needs of human beings and it is about you as well, when you join this project;
Please send me one article of your clothing, which you don`t need
anymore (it doesn`t matter if there is a mark on it, a cut in it, the
zipper is not working anymore etc.) and a word (in your language, a
word, which you like, which you don`t like, which you use often or
never, it can be a name, too) to this adress :

Sandra Becker
Hunscheidtstraße 162
44789 Bochum
Germany

in case you like to send me more material - like little messages,
infomation about you, your life, your country, the article of clothing
( maybe there is a story about it - you never liked to wear it, it was
a gift, you wore it in an important moment) - i will be pleased about
it.
my plan is to put all together in a new way - so that there will be one dress and one poem at the end for one performance/ film/installation, but it is not clear how it will be exactly - at least the most important thing depends on you. maybe the dress and the poem will go on a journey again, maybe they will come back to you, maybe you get a message from them, maybe you won´t see them again, maybe....the ideas become more and more with every package i get from you what ever will happen - i let you know. and be sure; whenever you give something - you get something.
the artwork will be shown at the diploma exhibition of the FH Ottersberg (Germany) on march 21th 2008.
you will find a documentation on my tribe-blog.

i hope that it will be possible to support me,
looking forward to get a message from you,

Become a part of babel !

Anyone know a good (stays put) glitter body make up or way to make fine craft glitter adhere to skin? It would be for a performance so sweat-proof is a plus. I'd prefer it to be more opaque than just a little sparkly like most drugstore brands. Thanks!

If you know of anyone getting rid of carpet we would be very grateful of it.

The only catch is we need it today! or as soon as possible, yesterday really. We are trying to pack the serpent mother for the fire arts festival in Oakland and then on to Amsterdam, taking Flaming Lotus Fire Art to the world ( http://serpentmother.com/ ), and it would be part of the solution to a problem. We are working day and night. It isn't easy fitting a 168 ft long Flaming Serpent into a shipping container. She takes a bit of taming!

If you know of friends or family getting rid of carpet which could be donated to the cause, please email as soon as you read this. Packing deadlines are being pushed!

Many thanks

Fire, lipstick and kisses from

Barbieskinner and the rest of the Flaming Lotus Girls and the Serpent Mother too

Wire wings

I'm kind of new at non-feather wing making. I have an idea for a pair of intricate wire wings, but I'm afraid of the wire being bent out of shape during wear. Is there a type of clear plastic material that could be bonded to the wire with heat for a lamenated-like look?

Marshalls' Fashion Police strike downtown San Francisco -- win prizes

Underscoring that paying too much for fashion is a crime, Marshalls – one of the nation’s leading off-price retailer – is on a coast-to-coast search for fashion victims: people who unwittingly pay too much for fashion.

Accompanied by roving models showing the latest Marshalls fashions, teams of Fashion Police (licensed to give out citations for paying too much for designer-wear) and Deal Divas (wearing oversized price tags) are on patrol in San Francisco’s fashion hotspots. Fashion-friendly citations will be given in Union Square, Yerba Buena Gardens, Pier 39, throughout the Financial District and other areas to encourage shoppers to eschew their over-priced ways and head to their local Marshalls.

And, if there’s not a member of the Fashion Police handy, people can issue a “citizens arrest” online at www.marshallsfashionpolice.com and send citations to their friends, check out the most wanted lineup, receive some fashion crime stopping tips and enter a contest for free prizes including a Marshalls shopping spree. Also online, earn your “License to Shop” by taking the Fashion Police Quiz. View fashion crime stopping tips, and check out the Most Wanted Fashion Lineup.

When: Thursday, June 7 – Sunday, June 10

Great bargains can be found every day at Marshalls, at prices up to 60% less than department and specialty stores. For store locations, call 1-800-MARSHALLS, or visit Marshalls on the Web at www.MarshallsOnline.com.

Fairy costume ideas/advice

So I'm going to be entering the Faerieworlds festival costume competition in July, and I'm getting started on my costume. I'm not dead set on winning, but I at least want to make a decent show of it, and I'm going to be up against extremely stiff competition.

I'm still working on conceptualizing my costume. I can't decide a very traditional woods faerie, or a contemporary scraggly street kid kid style faerie. Any ideas, advice, experience, or little tips for adding detail to a costume would be helpful.

Also, I specialize more in makeup (I do a lot of face painting) so if there are any ideas for that I would love it.

Thanks

Masonic Lodge of San Mateo
Doors Open: 6:45p.m.
Don't miss this magical May ball in honour of her royal highness the Princess Aurora, the kingdom's long-awaited heiress. Fairy, fairy tale, or fantasy costume is admired, not required and historical or semi-historical costume (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Regency, Victorian, or Pre-Raphaelite) or modern evening dress is also welcome. Masks and wings are optional. In the interest of dancing, our fairies may want to avoid anything with a huge wingspan, but our guests' creativity is encouraged.

PEERS is honoured to present one of the world's most glorious Celtic Fusion rock bands - Avalon Rising - as our featured band, playing waltzes, polkas, jigs, reels, country dances, and both traditional and original music for an evening of both vintage ballroom dancing and free-style dancing. Some of the dances will be highly structured (and will be briefly taught or called at the ball) but there will be a number of dances in which the guests may exercise their creativity. It's not uncommon to have a polka, an Irish reel-athon or polka set, Swing and free-style rock going on at the same time on the dance floor to the very same tune at our fantasy and fairy tale balls!

For a sneak preview of the evening's magical music, we highly recommend any and all of Avalon Rising's currently available CD's. Please see the band's website for more information.

There will be both musical and dance performances and DJ dance music at intermission. To sustain us through such a vigorous evening of dancing, their Majesties will be serving a semi-period buffet of sweets and savories. Gifts for the Princess and potluck contributions to the buffet are also admired, not required.

I need to make a cat tail for a costume and thought I'd simply sew a really loooong, skinny "sock" made with furry fabric, turn it out, stuff with batting, and insert a coat hanger for shaping. Anyone have any successful experiences with alternative methods? I'm all ears! (And whiskers.....)

I too like others tried this.It seemed like an easy idea until I put the fur against the boots. If I simply wrap the fur around the front of the boot, there will be a giant wrinkle to make the bend. Does anybody have a sewing pattern for the leg warmers? or can I make them without a sewing machine.

Me, I'm gonna be a genie - I made some harem pants and a bra top with some chiffon-y $2-per-yard fabric, and need inspiration for accessorizing. Anyone have any pics of genie costumes you can share? But please, no pictures of Barbara Eden, for heavens sake!!!

Costume Help!

Hi everyone! I just joined.
Hoping someone can help me. I have a few things I know I want to where and am trying to decide how to accerorize, which will make the costume whatever it will be.
I have:
~purple and black striped tights
~sexy black short black dress, with the bottom having different lengths.
I need to decide on shoes. I hate heels. I am thinking black vans, or chunky platform boots.
And- what can I be? I am thinking witch (get a hat), pirate (get a patch, etc.), superhero(cape), some kind of pippi longstocking (with my braids??), etc...
What do you think? Any ideas these bring to mind? I know it is tough without actually seeing what i have, but maybe the tights and dress make you think of something that i have not.
Most mportantly, what kind of shoes?
:)
Thanks,
Sage

Unique performers, performance artists, cosplayers wanted. (Los Angeles)

Are you a Performance Artist? Dancer? Digital Media Artist? A Performer? OR do you simply have a strange and bizarre act?
We want to expose your art to people in a fun nightclub environment. Every Friday, hundreds of people attend our nightclub. Our clientele are some of the most open minded people in Los Angeles. In the past, we've had performances that ranged from BDSM, Living Art Installations, and even Fashion shows using found objects. Many of the performers have returned while we continue to invite new artists to perform at our events. Here are some examples of what we're looking for:
- Performers who will interact with the crowd.
- Body painted performers, or body painters.
- Stilt walkers, jugglers, sword swallowers, unicyclists.
- Burlesque performers with a twist.
- Contortionists.
- Magicians, even bad magicians!
- Club Kids, Drag Performers, Costumed characters.
Basically, as long as it's different and legal, we're interested.

In exchange, here's what we're offering:
- Free entry for you and 6 of your closest friends.
- Exposure to hundreds of people (each week). As many weeks as you want to perform.
- A venue to test out your new material to a captivated audience.
- An audience to express your art to.
- Freedom to hand out your business cards, sell your art, and advertise your art.

So for the first time in I don't even know how long I've finally done a bit of work on a personal costume. (Usually I'm just too busy with other people's commissions to work for myself. ) So yesterday I finished and took a few quick photos of the head of my wolf suit.

http://bladespark.topcities.com/costume/yinhead03.jpg

I'll be wearing it with clothes, rather than with a fur bodysuit. Eventually the whole outfit will be just a touch goth (I'm pondering giving it some earrings or something) with combat boots, and pawgloves.

Getting Rid of my Fetish and Latex clothing

So my closet space seems to be dwindling rapidly... or else I just have too many clothes! Either way, I need to get rid of some clothes so I can actually close the door. Here's a list of the things I'm selling:
1) Custom METALLIC PURPLE latex gown by Syren size L for somebody between 5' 9" to 6' 0" tall and slim to average body. This is based on the "Madonna" gown made by Syren (retails for $380 + tax + shipping) but I had custom flared out sleeves made (another $50). It's a gorgeous dress that's tight on top, and fishtails on the bottom. I've worn it twice and loaned it to a friend once for a fetish event. There's a tiny (about 1" x 1/4" ) blemish on the lower front where I I accidently touched it with an acetone soaked cottonball, but you'd have to look for it to even catch it. Otherwise it's perfect. I'm asking $275 + shipping for it. Here's a picture of the regular gown in black: www.syren.com/STORE/gowns...GOWN_jpg.jpg
Here's the actual dress on me: people.tribe.net/903fc100-...a976064e58

2) Black latex catsuit by Syren. Size L for somebody between 5' 8" to 5' 10". This is an off the rack catsuit that is footless and full sleeves. The zipper extends from the back all the way past the crotch. I once tore the suit along the left shoulder and sent it back to Syren to have them repair it. I've actually used it since for photoshoots and you can't tell where it was repaired in pictures. But if you look closely you can see the new seam. The suit retails for $310 + tax + shipping. I'm asking $150 + shipping. Here's a picture of what it looks like: www.syren.com/SHOP/Women/...s/atgrp2.htm
Here's the actual suit on me after the repair (look on the left shoulder):
people.tribe.net/903fc100-...f25524efb9

3) Lip Service silver vinyl waist cincher. This is not a boned waist cincher, but it still cinches since it has about 4 straps with buckles top to bottom. I got this cincher because it's gorgeous, but sadly it's always been way too big on me. I appears to be a medium (for somebody with a natural 29" waist so it cinches down to a 26" or so). I think I've worn this thing twice ever. I even had the zipper professional replaced once to a heavier duty one. I'm asking $20 for it, not sure how much I paid for it new but I'm sure about twice of that. Here's a picture of it on me: people.tribe.net/903fc100-...4c9183ff85

Send me an email if you're interested and I can send you my PayPal address.

I'd like to invite you to a place called "The Realm of Skatha."

This is a land where we hope to meet with fellow travelers in the form of musicians, dancers, theatrical designers, mask makers, costuming folks, web gurus and other creative types who want to become involved in, make suggestions on and to create a magickal spectacle for the senses which we will launch on an unsuspecting public.

Our interests are wide, encompassing Medieval, Middle Eastern, Celtic and Contemporary music and dance, theatre, multi-media and more.

Join our tribe, introduce yourself and begin creating what we hope will develop into a spectacular adventure in performance.
Pay us a visit at http://tribes.tribe.net/skatha

At the heart of Skatha right now are Medieval Bagpipes and Percussion - we hope to add more colors to our palette very soon.

Enjoy the journey ...
Sewing Pattern for Leg Warmers?

I'd like to put together an outfit for a club that I'm go go dancing at next week. The theme is red (for Hell) and I got a bunch of red fake fur that I'd like to make leg warmers and a miniskirt with. The leg warmers are the kind that go over go go boots like the ones shown here: http://disguys.tribe.net/photos/d59d6195-8cd5-4150-b8ee-17f31d8c438b
It seemed like an easy idea until I put the fur against the boots. If I simply wrap the fur around the front of the boot, there will be a giant wrinkle to make the bend. Does anybody have a sewing pattern for the leg warmers?

I've always been batty for hats, especially headdresses. In the last couple weeks while eavesdropping on my various costume lists, I've seen some great tiaras, kokoshniks, Swedish folk headwear, stiff Phrygian caps, Sisters of Charity coronets, etc. Gosh, I'm dying to make that stuff. I've got the book "From the Neck Up" but it only covers the most common things. I wish I could figure out how to construct anything I see. I really would like to be able to draw 2-d patterns from what I see in 3-d.

suggestions for other sites like Etsy.com to sell my clothing?

I am looking for an online venue to sell clothing and accessories. I don't yet want to invest in creating my own ecommerce site, so I'm looking for something that will manage the backend.

I'm not entirely thrilled with Etsy.com from my initial investigations. Anyone have suggestions for other sites to sell handmade/reconstructed goods?

Want creative inspiration? Watch Project Runway!

I posted this in a Bay Area sewing tribe, too, but as a Costumer at heart, I must post here, too.

----------
Are any of you addicted like I am? Thank Goddess for TiVo!

I'm talking about Bravo TV's Project Runway.

SO SO SO good.

Think The Apprentice meets Survivor in the world of high fashion.

Project Runway gives aspiring designers a chance to break into the fashion world; thus the drama unfolds in the discount fabric store and the fear sets in when the experts allude to too much trim. A very pregnant Heidi Klum heads a panel of industry luminary judges, including top women's and men's wear designer Michael Kors and Elle Magazine fashion director Nina Garcia.

From creating an entire outfit using the clothes off their backs to building a new look for Barbie, the weekly design challenges might get some hem lines into a ruffle and give a blazer all the right fringe.

I'm addicted: Hook, bobbin, and Singer.

Elizabethan gown + accessories stolen - reward offered

I'm posting this for a friend. I apologize if you're seeing this more than once; I'm posting in several costuming-related tribes, hoping someone will find the gown.
------

Genevieve de Vendome's (Toni Whyte's) beautiful Elizabethan 12th Night
costume and jewelry was STOLEN from her car in front of my house last
night.

Below is a detailed list of the missing items which are of great
sentimental value (not to mention a lot of work on the part of many
SCA artisans). Several pictures are also posted online at:
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/hysteria95126/my_photos. The album is
"Stolen gown belongs to Toni aka Genevieve."

Please cross post his missive to any and all lists that you can think
of in hopes of locating the stolen items; with only six degrees of
separation, hopefully someone somewhere will see these if & when they
surface.

If anyone hears or sees anything resembling these at pawn
shops/antique stores/email lists/ ebay, please let me know: rachael
DOT keish AT gmail DOT com. I'm offering a reward for the gowns and
pendants, no questions asked, just to try and recover them.

Sincerely,
Marguerite du Royon
AKA Rachael Keish

I am dressing for a spectacular New Years eve event, themed "Divine Gods and Goddesses", and though a common theme, I want to create an uncommonly wonderful costume. It can be real goddesses, Athena, Isis etc, or something more eclectic, goddess of merlot, goddess of daydreams, yellow, whatever. I think I'm a little baffled because the possiblities are endless!

Any suggestions for links to photos are welcome, as are past projects or wildest costume fantasies are welcome.

I'm working on a costume that is primarily oil paints on a coverall, but I've put on some glitter that I'm wondering how I can make stay. It's just on with clear glue right now, but I've thought of using Fixident (like for covering charcol drawings) or a clear waterproofing spray. Does anyone have experience with these, or anything else for holding glitter and/or making paint on fabric last longer?
Anything helps, thanks

Hi there. I just joined this tribe in hopes of getting some help in how to create a costume. I'm going to a New Year's Eve concert where the theme is to come as something dreamy, or dream-like. The idea popped in my head to be a dreamcatcher. Now....how to actually do it and make it look somewhat like an actual dreamcatcher is something I am having a hard time with.

I'm open to all ideas. If you have any please share :-) Thanks a bunch!

Hi folks - I'm hoping someone can guide me. The costuming in 2 movies has recently really inspired me and I'm hoping to create something along the lines I've seen. 'Hero' and 'House of Flying Daggers' were both costumed by Emi Wada. I think I'll have to look at kimono patterns and other Asian costume patterns and extrapolate - any suggestions?

i have looked everywhere i can think of to find this stuff, and even the guy at the "largest fabric store in the northwest" is telling me that no one makes it any more.

can this be true? i swear i have a pair of underwear around here that are nude-colored (read: white people skin tone) cotton lycra. the guy at the fabric store said it's usually used for making doll heads/limbs.

please keep me from cutting up every pair of underwear i can find to make the body suits i am looking for...

hello to you wonderful and creative people! I am trying to transfer a pattern on plain white paper (from a book of clip art) onto cotton from Dharma Trading Co. I have tried the transfer tracing paper which acts like carbon paper under the pattern, but to no avail. Does anyone know of a better way to do this? I am currently copying the designs freehand and I really would like to make it look better than I am capable of.

Hiya~~~

In the next day or so I want to build a box around myself as part of this performance costume I'm going to do.

Basically, I would like to have some sort of lightweight frame attached to my person to give the suggestion of being in a "booth".

Any ideas that I could pull of in a day, and NOT be totally annoyed and shed within 5 minutes??

I woke up this morning and answered an email about making a bodysuit for a Superman costume. I stumbled across the Japanesse PepsiMan and felt inspired.

Here is what a bore mind and idle hands can craft in an afternoon. I wonder if I can get Free Pepsi products if I wear this around town?

I need to find a great looking Catwoman vinyl / latex costume.

I'm not much of a costume maker nor do I know anyone who is. At first I was looking into renting one but the quality of these rentals SUCK! Also for $50-$90, I'd rather buy one. I don't want the Hale Berry costume. I'm looking for the Michelle Pfieffer costume. The stiching or safety pins she used in the movie should be visible all over the costume(mask and bodysuit). All the costumes that I've seen so far don't show that.

Can anyone help or lead me in the right direction. I still haven't totally omitted renting as an option but it would be my desperate last choice. So I will still like to hear of any good rental shops in the L.A. area.

Thanks A LOT!

I'm in a show coming up where this the look they want me to go for. While I love the concept I've been to swamped lately to really get into creating the product. I was hoping some of you creative folks out there could help inpsire me.

This is for a dance troup. I will be wearing hotshorts. And lots of gore makeup.

I also know we plan on wiring my hair into the classic two stand out braids.

Any suggestions for the rest of it?

I'm new to this tribe and was hoping that someone on this tribe could help out with an idea.

i'm planning to go as curious george for halloween, but with a twist.... a monkey suit with a george bush mask.

the problem is that I can't find a costume for a monkey that isn't kid sized, and i'm a wee bit bigger than a kid. does anyone know where to get a pattern or know of a place that has a monkey costume.

any help would be appricated.

Thanks

So.

I have this dream.

For an upcoming event (Oct. 8) and for Halloween - since I'll be around entirely separate groups of people... I want to dress up like a doll... kinda like the Dresden Dolls http://www.dresdendolls.com

I am low budget and I want to sex it up a little bit...

Anybody got any good ideas for me? I may or may not have access to a sewing machine, depending on how much I beg and plead.

I'm going to do make-up ala mime... white face, red defined lips, rosy cheeks. But as for the outfit, I'm not sure!

Help!

Thanks,

Hi there!
Some of you may recognize me from elsewhere...
I'm just pleased to death with how my last costume turned out that I had to share with as many people as possible.
For a convention this year, I actually managed to complete a costume. This may not seem like that big a deal for a costume Tribe, but, uh...I hardly ever finish anything!
I posted one of the pics in the tribe photo album. The rest of the pics are in here:
http://www.niceboots.com/~tenebrae/pics/Otakon2005/MyCosplay/
The catgirl outfit is Teneko, Evil Lord Kerisu's Loyal Kitty Minion. She is from the webcomic Strange Candy / Okashina Okashi (http://www.strangecandy.net). Teneko and Evil Lord Kerisu are actually based on myself and my fiancé Kerisu.
The corset was a custom piece I ordered from a corsetiere in Australia. Apart from that (and the gloves and collar), I made everything I'm wearing. That was the first wig I ever styled and wore. Best compliment I received on the outfit was when I was telling somebody about the wig and she said (while standing only 1 or 2 feet away), "That's a wig??" I made the cat ears and sewed them to the wig. I made the matching poseable cat tail. I made the sleeves and the black velvet bodysuit with built-in shelf bra and marabou trim. I made 4 skirts, but the pointy black and purple PVC ones are sewn together to make one. Even the black velvet stockings were modified. They have a seam that runs all the way down the back and across the bottom of the sole of the foot which makes them very uncomfortable to stand in for any length of time. I sewed a new flat sole onto them out of some stretchy sueded material I had left over from a project I never finished. To give the stockings a smooth line (and to hide my spider veins), I removed the elastic from the top and instead sewed them onto flesh-toned shaper shorts. The shoes only came in black so I had to find some shoe paint and paint them purple.
You can't imagine how happy I am with this! =^_^=
Eventually I hope to make the corset myself so I can say I did that, too.
Yay!

-Tenebrae, aka Teneko.

Does anyone now where I might find a pattern for Beach Pants? I was going to try to wing it but I’m a total new sewer and my sewing buddy (great seamstress) is out of town until middle Aug. :(
Beach Pants are the ones that tie in the front & the back.

I was thinking of making a Gothy version for Bat Day (Goths at Disneylands 8/27/05)
Maybe black sheer lace with solid black ripped looking material underneath from hip to a few inches to my knees.
HELP! pants butt and lower back adjustments

HELP! I'm going absolutely crazy. I've spent the past 3 hours trying to adjust the pattern for a jumpsuit and still can't get this right.

the first one I made was out of lycra, so there was a lot more give in the areas where the pattern was too tight. but the second one I'm making doesn't have lycra so I need the pattern to be the exact widths.

the problem is in the butt and lower back.

I need to keep the curve aspect of the butt seam the same to fit the inseam/crotch/butt area right. but I need to add to the overall width of the butt panel because while the vertical curve hugged the butt right, the horizontal measurment didn't reach to the halfway width of the butt.

adding to the outside hip curve did not help and just fucked up everything else (twisting the side leg seams something awful). if I add inches to the outside top of the butt curve (keeping the crotch/inseam bottom curve the same), and keep the integrity of the curve itself, this works. BUT that also has the effect of shortening the length of the top half of the jumpsuit, along the back area.

so I finaly got the butt to fit right, BUT now I need about 2" more in length on the back panel, around the lower back. WITHOUT changing the front panel length, which is currently perfect. and adding length to the front will cause it to bag around the crotch or stomach.

I can't just add 2" to the top of the back panel because it will mess up the arm holes and just make the upper sholders bag. so I somehow need to magically add 2" somewhere between the bottom of the arm hole and the butt, WHILE still making it match the front panel.

I thought that perhaps what I really need to do is add some width or depth to the butt curve to release the fabric across the lower back. but after spending 3 hours to get the butt curve measurement right, I simply can't see how to touch it.

please help!!! thanks.

I've got an event I'm going to in August, so I figure I have a head start on this one and have high hopes.
I found the perfect shoes for a costume, but the problem is that they're black vinyl and I need them to be shiny purple. Any ideas for what I could use for that? I was thinking I might be able to spray paint them or something, but I worry that would crack badly. Maybe I could use a sponge brush to paint them with acrylic paint?
I thought about trying to find a way to stick satin on them, but I don't really think that would turn out very well.

Any tips?

Someone on two of my mailing lists posted these links to armor he made. Since he's selling it, I don't think he'll go into technique. However, does anyone here have insight into the type of technique used to make light metallic-looking armor out of plastic like this:

I've just finished the new version of my Second Age Elven Armor.
You might have seen my previous Elrond version a while back. This
new version is made of the same tough polypropalyne plastic as the
originals, complete with all leather trim, bracers, cloak loops and
straps, brass rivets, and elasticized speed lacings for an
adjustable fit.
headdress suggestions?

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or good links to sites that would explain how to make a headdress? I'm a fire spinner and would like to create a head piece with beads, metal, and wicks (far away from my hair and scalp, of course). In short, I'd like it to be decorative and functional. Because of the fire element, I can't use plastics, or other materials that may melt! I realize this is a little vague, but so long as I have a basic structure to work with, I can take it from there.
Thanks, Sarah

You can buy rolls of copper flashing at the hardware store, it's super cool. I have been thinking of making a top-hat out of it. Have any of you worked with it before? Any tips for me?

Helmets / clear plastic visor?

Hey there.
I had a sudden inspiration to relive my childhood and wanted to do my G-Force / Battle of the Planets / Gatchaman / whatever you wanna call it (it's all the same show) costume up right. My problem is the character wears a fanciful motorcycle helmet with a transparent yellow bill-like visor. I've heard that there is plastic that is bendable with low heat and was wondering what to look for in the craft stores or online. Does anybody have experience with something like this?
I saw some "Friendly plastic" that is bendable with hot water, but it only seems to come in small pellets or jewellery-sized sheets.
I think I might try some hot glue moulding for the helmet part...I dunno. I've never done anything of this magnitude before. A sewing machine and Sculpey won't quite cut it with this project. :)

Working up a great costume for a dragon right now and was wondering if anyone has used the contact lenses that look like cat’s eyes. It seems like they would be the perfect touch to our creation.

Where did you find them?
Were they ultra painful? (I’ve never worn contacts)
What could I use to dull any pain?

NEW ENGLAND: Medieval Repertory forming - all disciplines needed

Greetings -

I'm putting together a troupe of players who will perform medieval inspired plays / circus / happenings and I want to gather together a creative team together who can make this project a reality. We can take our magic into schools, festivals, prisons, community organizations, medieval societies, theatre festivals or anywhere our hearts desire.

We need investors, backers, supporters, angels, call them what you will - they will provide 'seed' and development money.

We need writers, producers, directors and production designers.

We also need set designers to plan sets that can be transported easily and can be set up quickly, but will have HUGE impact. The set should be able to change with simple adjustments by the cast. It should be able to be used in parks, parking lots, community centers, fairs, festivals and anywhere else we find ourselves performing.

We also need costumes based on medieval traveling players, but with a twist - fantasy, gothic etc.

Medieval players depended a great deal on masks. Someone with design and building skills would be a great asset.

Finally, we will need people with musical, circus, dancing and performing skills – belly dancers, jugglers, fire twirlers and assorted medieval outcasts.

I want this to be a collective / collaborative ensemble, where we all reap the benefits of our hard work.

The shows will be set in another time, but will comment directly on what is happening politically today.

See the Daughters of Elvin site for an idea of what I'm planning (although I’d like to see our efforts ‘darker’ and less ‘clean’ than this:

http://www.endicott-studio.com/jMA0301/daughters.html

If you want to get in at the groundfloor of this idea, please get in contact.

Visit my websites at:
http://www.raypriceonline.com
http://www.trouzbras.com

I thank you ...

Anyway I want to find a plastic that I can cut into triangles to have them sticking out of my leather like spines. I know how to mount them but I can't find where to get sheets of fairly stiff plastic.
Any leads?

Anyone want to trade an astrology reading for some fabric?

If you've seen one of my postings, you know I'm a Canadian traveller who's checking out California. Generally I spend time between SF and LA, and I'm just about to transition back to LA again. I'm an astrologist that specializes in relationship guidance, insight into human sexuality through astrology, including likely turnons and fetishes of each sign and who they work well with, etc and spiritual advice. I read the Goddess Guidance Cards as well, an exceptionally powerful and uplifting deck of tarot cards that have helped alter the course of many people's lives since they first came into my hands. I offer my services by donation and take trades, talk to me about what it is you have to offer and we'll see if we can work out a deal. I'm also fundraising for Dream CO(llective) dreamcollective.tribe.net which is a travelling higher conscious road show with performance art, music and art that's hitting the road in June. A huge need right now is fabrics and materials for decorations.

I've been studying human sexuality and giving relationship counselling for about 5 years now...since I became nomadic and started wandering the world. I started studying astrology after it was proven to me to have validity because it helps me give people deeper guidance, psychological analysis and triggers my intuitive senses when I apply them to a personal problem for someone. I'm completely non-judgemental and open-minded, you can talk to me about almost anything and I'll listen and give you the best insight I can. I'm deeply committed to being a healer in this regard, even if you don't have money I'll sit and do a reading, just make me dinner, buy me food or offer me a couch to stay. Or simply tell me you need help, I'm not one to say no to that.

I use what I know to help people navigate communication difficulties in relationships, bridge gaps between the sexes, isolate good match ups for those seeking to break bad relationship patterns or help you find that casual sex partner with no strings attached, so no one gets their feelings hurt.

So let's chat.
